Caught a few, got rolled on more than a few. A good beat down. Time in the water is always good, no matter how many lessons you're taught in the process. God, I wanna get rid of this rubber! Soon. Water is warming up, and summer feels very close. 80 out today which made 63 deg. water refreshing. Waves about waist, but with some sectioning goin' on. Fast too...especially left. The clouds finally broke, the sun shone, and a few dolphin passed. Nice night.

Working Stiff, notes from The Watt
We have not made the most of the surf so far. Timing... timing of jobs, timing of the extracurricular, timing of the day, timing of tide, timing of the current, timing of the waves. Lack of flexibility... arms, legs, neck. Restriction... rubber. Lack of time means lack of timing; means feeling the off season stiffness; means fighting that restriction of rubber. Definitely feeling that loss of timing Thursday. The surf was a bit rough, but definitely ridable... although not so much for me. And my gut churned as much as the water. Nice night though.
So, to alleviate my disappointment and adjust my attitude, I went out the next night as well. First, I shed the gloves. Little by little gotta get rid of the rubber, (after all, it feels more natural without the rubber). The knee/thigh surf was calmer. I was calmer. And the rides came. It's a cliche' but true- what a difference a day makes. Gonna get me more of 'em!

Get Wet, Stay Wet, Notes from the Watt
Tuesday, 5/3/11 |
Finally able to get in a couple of sessions this past week...both Tuesday and Thursday. Knee to thigh and not much to write about, but the stoke is in the rush of that first ride. Definitely need to get my surf legs back after a long winter off. The key: get wet...Stay Wet!

Not Yet, Notes from the Watt 4/28
"I will see you again... but not yet... not yet..." -Juba
The first session of the season. Looking forward to it all winter. The anticipation that leads up to that first moment; catching your breath as the water surrounds you; the sharp brace of cold, the chill of your wet-suit flushing through, the warm spring air, the rush of the wave as it lifts your board, slicing down the wall, the stoke of that first ride. Started checking all the reports the previous week; weather, tide, buoy, surf. Thursday was looking good, then degraded, then got worse, then... chest high, blown out slop. Wind. Rain. $hit.
Patience has always needed work, but this was really workin' it. Whaddaya do? Weekend was for work. Looks like May will see the first ride. The elements and schedules WILL cooperate soon enough. This night... family, friends, hot wings, cold drafts, and the NFL draft.
